Network mourns loss of president

Dr. Sondra Shippen

The Delaware Charter School Network mourns the loss of its president, Dr. Sondra Shippen.  Dr. Shippen, head of school at Kuumba Academy, will always be remembered for her compassion and commitment.   The entire charter school community extends its deepest sympathies to her family and her school family.

Dr. Shippen was a leader not only of her students and staff, but of educators.  At every opportunity, she demonstrated the qualities that we all strive for as we work to improve children’s lives.  She had a special talent for building consensus and bringing out the best in everyone with whom she interacted.

2010 Catalyst Award Dinner Salutes       Bill and Martha Manning

On May 24, more than 200 friends of education reform attended the Network's annual Catalyst in Education Award Dinner, recognizing Bil and Martha Manning as change agents in public education in Delaware.  For years, the Mannings have served as drivers for innovation in public education.  Bill is the former president of the Red Clay School Board and supported the board's role as a charter school authorizer.  He currently is a board member of MOT Charter School.  Martha is the former director of the Network, founder of Marion T. Academy and the Cab Calloway School of Arts.  Guest Speaker for the evening was Jeanne Allen, President of the Center for Education Reform.  Thanks to all who attended and congratulations to the Mannings who have impacted thousands of families in Delaware.
